Smart Shopping at the Grocery Store

A part of being a #HealthyYou is choosing the right foods to fuel your body. Unfortunately, choosing healthy options at the grocery store can be a challenge with all of the temptations displayed throughout the store.

Smart Shopping at the Grocery StoreTo keep you on the right path, here are some tips to follow when grocery shopping:

1. Don’t shop on an empty stomach. When you shop on an empty stomach, you are more likely to cave to your cravings rather than choosing the healthier option.

2. Go with a list. Keep a paper and pen in the kitchen. This way you can write down items you need right away. Make your list according to your meals. When you plan your meals ahead of time, you will know exactly what you have and exactly what you need. You may still end up with a few extra items in your cart, but this will ensure you get all the food you need. You may also be able to skip some aisles, so the temptations will be minimized.

3. Stick to the perimeter. The perimeter contains your fresh foods - fruits, vegetables, meat, and dairy. Avoid the center aisles and end caps where junk food is found.

4. Buy frozen. It is great to buy fresh produce, but it can be expensive and go bad quickly. So, to save a little cash, opt for frozen.

5. Tech it up. Several money-saving apps are available for your phone to help you save money and earn cash back.
