Make 2019 Your Best Financial Year Yet

Did you make a financial New Year's Resolution?

Make 2019 Your Best Financial Year YetJanuary is over half way gone. Did you make a financial New Year’s Resolution? Have you been able to stick with it the past few weeks? If not, that’s okay. When it comes to your personal finances, it’s never too late for a fresh start. Here are some tips to get you started in your journey.

• Set financial goals: Setting financial goals will help you prioritize spending. Set short-term, intermediate, and long-term goals. Be sure they are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound). A goal without a plan is just a wish, so make sure to set action steps and milestones along the way.
• Create a budget: Your budget is your roadmap to achieving your goals. If you have never created a budget visit our Learn to Budget Like a Boss blog post (https://www.ag.ndsu.edu/adulting/blog/learn-to-budget-like-a-boss-create-your-first-budget-in-4-easy-steps).
• Track your spending: Once you have created your budget, you should make sure you are actually spending your money on the things you have budgeted for. There are a variety of ways you can track your spending. For a few ideas visit our Using Envelopes to Track Expenses  blog post.

With a little time and effort, you can take control of your finances in 2019 and make this your best year yet!
