6 Tips to Avoid the Holiday Shopping Hangover

The gift-giving season is upon us. Whether it's gifts for friends and family or something for yourself, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday all provide an opportunity to snag some great deals.

Holiday Shopping HangoverThe gift-giving season is upon us. Whether it's gifts for friends and family or something for yourself, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday all provide an opportunity to snag some great deals. But, don’t get too carried away! Here are some tips to help you avoid the holiday shopping hangover:

- Set a spending budget and stick to it. Knowing how much you can spend will help you determine what you can buy.
-  Make a list and check it twice. Don't impulse shop on these days. It's easy to get carried away when things are discounted so much, but you can end up spending more than you planned just to get the deal.
- Check ads and check the sales days and times. Sales start early, not just Friday and Monday. Make sure to double-check the ads so you know what goes on sale when. You don’t want to miss out on deals because you didn’t pay attention to when the item was on sale.
-  Plan ahead. Whether you are headed out in the cold to wait in line or are doing all of your shopping online, it is important to have a plan. Some apps and websites will allow you to add items to your cart and check out when the sale starts allowing you to get the sales price.
-  Don’t buy something just because it is on sale.
-  Leave the credit cards at home. If you pay interest, you may end up paying more than you would have if you had just paid full price.

By planning ahead and exercising a little self-control you can make it through this shopping season without breaking the bank.
