5 Ways to Eat Better When You are Out-and-About

Constantly on the run? Tired of finding yourself combing through gas station aisles and not knowing which choice is the better choice?

5 Ways to Eat Better when out and aboutConstantly on the run? Tired of finding yourself combing through gas station aisles and not knowing which choice is the better choice? Here are five tips to steer you in the right direction.

1. Avoid fried. This includes chips, mozzarella sticks, fries, and hot-n-ready wings. Fried foods add unwanted fat and calories to meals and snacks.
2. Look for protein. Protein packed foods such as hard-boiled eggs, low-fat cheese sticks, yogurt, or roasted nuts are important for a well-balanced meal.
3. Go for the H2O. Opting for water rather than a sugary drink will keep you hydrated and can save you upwards of 300 calories.
4. Find some fiber. Fruits, vegetables, and whole grains contain fiber that will keep you feeling full. Most gas stations now carry fresh fruit or pre-cut vegetables or even salads to-go to make eating fruits and veggies a bit more convenient. For whole grains, look for instant oatmeal, cereal, or popcorn.
5. Skip the sweets. I know those candy bars and cookies look tempting, but try opting for a nutrient-rich food instead.
