Windows 7 Share Drive Checklist

For those that are feeling overwhelmed with the changes to the share drives, here is a quick checklist for getting up and running on Windows 7 again:

  1. Download the Windows 7 Share Drive utility (Win7 Shared Drives.exe) Due to the changes in the shared drives, this program will need to be run each time you log out or restart your computer.  We recommend saving it to your desktop for easy access.

  2. Double click on the file to run the program.  You should now see a screen asking you to login to connect to your shared drives.

    Enter your password and click the OK button.  The window should stay open for a short time while it connects to the drives and will close on completion.

  3. Check your drives.  Open the start menu and click on "My Computer" to open the File Explorer.  Check to see if your X:, S: and/or U: drives are listed. 

    If they show up, continue to step 4. Otherwise, re-run the Win7 Shared Drives.exe file as an Administrator by right-clicking on the file and selecting "run as administrator".

  4. Patch your system for optimal performance.  Once you have confirmed your shared drives are showing up, you may now want to patch your system to allow you to copy/move files up to 2GB in size.  Download the patch from our website and run it.  You should see a screen like this:

    Once you have read the information and are ready to patch your system, press a key to continue.  When the patch is finished, you will see confirmation of the patch and be prompted to press a key one more time.  This will close the window.  Your patch is now complete.

At this point you should be able to access your shared drives and transfer files.  Please note that there are several issues in using the new share drives you may need to be aware of.  Please visit our Windows 7 Share Drives page for additional information.
