Disable Skype For Business

With the upcoming move to Microsoft Teams, Skype for Business is no longer needed.  Unfortunately, with Office 2019 and Office 365, you cannot simply uninstall Skype For Business.  However, we can disable it so it will not automatically start up when we log on to our computers.

Disabling Skype For Business

  1. Open Skype for Business and click on the gear icon in the upper right hand corner (you do NOT have to sign in to make these changes)
  2. In the left column of the options window, click on Personal
  3. In the right pane, near the top of the page, locate the option Automatically start the app when I log on to Windows and un-check the box
  4. Click OK and then close the Skype for Business window
  5. Last, locate the Skype for Business icon in the system tray near the clock (you may have to click on the up arrow for it to appear), right-click on the Skype icon and select Exit to fully close out of the program.

If you still have a shortcut to Skype for Business in your taskbar at the bottom of the screen, you can
right-click on the icon and select Unpin from taskbar.

If you have any questions about disabling Skype for Business, please feel free to contact the
at 231-8685.
