OneDrive Setup

The OneDrive program comes installed on Windows 10 by default so there is no need to download any additional software. Here are the steps to configure the software to connect to your cloud storage:

  1. Click on the Start Menu, then OneDrive.

  2. Enter your webmail log in, [username]

  3. You’ll be taken to an NDUS login page. Enter your NDUS email address again if it isn’t already there as well as your NDUS (email, HRMS/Peoplesoft) password.

  4. You’ll be prompted for a Duo authentication. Once you authenticate, you should see a OneDrive pop-up screen that prompts you to click Next. Click on the X in the upper right corner to bypass this screen and finish the setup.

  5. A local folder will be created for your OneDrive files. It will appear in File Explorer as OneDrive – North Dakota University System. Files and folders can be moved from your Desktop, Documents, etc. into this folder and will then be backed up and accessible in the cloud and from other computers you have set to sync to OneDrive.

Your files can be accessed from other computers by either repeating this installation on them or by signing in to Office365 at or email at After logging in, click the OneDrive icon in the upper left waffle and you’ll see all the files you have in OneDrive. You can access and edit them from here as well as upload additional files, and the latest versions will be saved.

Please be aware that OneDrive has a couple of limitations:

  • OneDrive has a maximum capacity of 1TB
  • No individual file can be larger than 15GB
  • File and folder names cannot contain any of the following characters: \, /, :, *, ?, ", <, >, |, #, %
Any files or folders using them will need to be renamed before being moved to the cloud.
