Here are the various Microsoft Office options available to NDSU employees as of February 2016.

Office 365 Cloud - Online (Web) Version - FREE

Web-based version of the most commonly used MS Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook. The Web-based version of Office 365 can be accessed through a Web browser anywhere Internet access is available. To use it, visit https://login.microsoftonline.com.

Office 2013 Professional Plus - 365 Pro Plus Web Download - FREE

Fully functional version of Office 2013 Professional Plus that can be installed to your home computer. This version will check to ensure you are still employed every 30 days by checking to see if your NDSU Office 365 account is still active. This means that you will need to connect to the Internet at least once every 30 days to prevent Office from deactivating itself. This version can be downloaded from the Office 365 Web portal at https://login.microsoftonline.com. Once you've logged in, locate the gear icon in the upper right corner next to your account picture. Click on the gear and select 'Office 365 Settings.' Once a new page loads, click on 'Install Status' on the left side. You now will load a page where you can either choose to 'Install desktop applications' (installs Office on your computer) or deactivate old installations from old computers you may no longer have. Please note that you should install this version on a home computer ONLY.  This version should NEVER be installed on a work computer and can interfere with the current Office installation.

Office 2016 Professional Plus - Home Use edition - $9.95 or $24.95

A full version of Office 2016 Professional Plus that can be installed on your home computer. This version of MS Office does not require Internet access and does not check your account every 30 days. However, this version is not free. The cost is $9.95 for the downloadable version and $24.95 for a CD/DVD version. To order a copy of Office Professional Plus through the Home Use Program, contact your NDSU departmental software contact.  Please note the license for this version requires you to remove it from your computer if you leave employment with NDSU. This version should NEVER be installed on a work computer and can interfere with the current Office installation.

Office 2016 Professional Plus - NDSU licensed

Fully installed version of Office 2016 Professional Plus available for installation on any NDSU-owned computer. This version is licensed for NDSU-owned computers only and should never be installed on personally owned computers.

For computers located on campus, you can upgrade your current Office version when you want without the need to call NDSU software or technical support.  To start the upgrade, simply click on the 'Start' button, click on 'All Programs' and scroll down to the 'Microsoft System Center 2013.' Inside that folder, click on the Software Center link. Once the Software Center loads, you will see a list of software that is available for installation. Check the box next to 'Ag Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2016' and click on the 'Install' button in the lower right corner to start the process. At this point, the installation will run silently behind the scenes. When finished, it may ask you to restart the computer to complete the installation.

For computers located in off-campus Extension offices and RECs, please contact Ag Comm Computer Services. In almost all cases, we should be able to connect to your computer remotely and assist you with the upgrade installation.
