Restoring Your Outlook Contacts

Assuming you have a backup file, restoring (also known as importing) your Outlook contacts is a fairly painless process.  Here are the steps:

Step 1)

Click on File in the upper left hand corner to open the main menu

Step 2)

In the menu, click Open & Export.  Then, on the right hand side, click on Import/Export.

 Step 3)

A window asking what action you'd like to perform should appear.  Select Import from another program or file and click the Next button.

Step 4)

Now it will ask you what type of file you'd like to import from.  Select Outlook Data File (.pst) and click the Next button.

Step 5)

You will now be prompted to locate the backup file you'd like to import.  Click on the Browse button to open an explorer window you can use to locate your backup file.  Often times people either store it on the desktop or in the Outlook Files folder inside their documents folder. We recommend you leave the other settings at default.  When finished, click the Finish button.

Step 6)

You will now be prompted to select the folder to import from.  Generally you'll only see one folder displayed that should be selected.  Make sure include subfolders is checked and that it is importing into your current email account as in the image below.  When finished, click finish.

Once finished, your contacts should show up again in Outlook.
