Why did you choose NDSU? NDSU is away from home but not too far, has a speech and debate team, and the cost is great too.

Why did you select the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources? I changed my major to economics after my first year because I was required to take Principles of Microeconomics for my previous major and I really enjoyed the class. It’s very interesting to learn about how and why our society functions the way it does.

Scholarships you have received and why they are important to you: I’ve received five scholarships through the Department of Agribusiness and Applied Economics and three for my involvement with the Speech and Debate team. Scholarships have been very important to my success at NDSU because they allow me to work fewer hours and choose jobs based on how useful the experience would be rather than the size of the paycheck. This way, I have more time for school and activities and I’m gaining resume-building experience on the job.

Clubs/organizations you’re involved in and why it is beneficial: I will always recommend getting involved on campus. I met my greatest friends through activities while also gaining skills that will be beneficial in my future. I am involved with NDSU Lincoln Speech and Debate Society (team president), Bison Guides, Center for the Study of Public Choice and Private Enterprise (NDSU PCPE) student programs: Pandemics and Liberty Colloquium, Mancur Olson Fellow - a paid opportunity to get undergraduate experience in academic research in economics and policy.

List any internships and a brief description of what you did: Communications and Marketing intern at NDSU PCPE: I blogged about economics and helped with social media promotion then transitioned to a Mancur Olson Fellow (research position).

Research Assistant at the US Commercial Service’s Rural Export Center (part of the Department of Commerce): provide custom market research to rural companies by collecting and analyzing data and relevant information about international markets and presenting the results to clients. Also, their office is conveniently located in Barry Hall.

What is your greatest memory at NDSU? My freshman year the speech team hosted a tournament in Minard Hall. When the tournament was over, it was snowing heavily so we all ran outside in our suits to take pictures with the Bison statue. One of the pictures is still the background on my phone.

What are your future plans? Applying to graduate school for economics.
