Why did you choose NDSU? I chose NDSU because of the campus atmosphere and because I knew that NDSU could offer me a quality education with opportunities that would help me advance my career in food science.

Why did you select the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources? I always knew that I wanted to study something that was related to my agricultural background. The college seemed like a great opportunity for me to expand my knowledge and to apply those skills.

Scholarships you have received and why scholarships are important to you: NDSU Provost Award, MN Institute of Food Technologist (IFT) Scholarship, IFT Feeding Tomorrow Scholarship, Cutler-Maetzold Agriculture Scholarship, Ralph and Constance Brakke Scholarship and Hulstrand Family Scholarship. Scholarships are important to me because they help to ease the stress of paying for college, and they help me to focus more on my academics, club involvements and long-term goals.

Clubs/organizations you’re involved in and why involvement in activities is beneficial: The organizations that I am involved in are the Food Science/Food Safety Club, CAFSNR Honor Commission and the Gold Star Marching Band. Involvement in activities has given me an opportunity to connect with students across campus and with other students from across the country. They have also allowed me to be more involved with events on campus and have given me leadership skills that I can apply in the future.

List any internships and a brief description of what you did: Last summer I was the Quality Assurance Intern at Seneca Foods in Glencoe, MN. I collected environmental swabs throughout the facility, performed microbial swabbing during plant sanitations, collected data for canned product drain weight studies and analyzed frozen product samples. The summer before I was the Strawberry Intern at the West Central Research and Outreach Center in Morris, MN. I performed routine plot maintenance for the strawberry plants and fruit production. I also assisted in fruit harvest and data collection to view the progress of the trial plots.

What is your greatest memory at NDSU? My greatest memory at NDSU was playing in the Gold Star Marching Band in Frisco and seeing NDSU win another championship football game.

What are your future plans? After graduation, I plan to work for a larger food company in product development.
