Meet the Staff

Brooks Warner, Amber Stockeland and Shelby Obermueller

Brooks Warner | Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent

Brooks began his full-time employment at Nelson County Extension Office on July 17th, 2020. Brooks comes to Lakota with a strong enthusiasm center Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent |around Ag education and 4-H. He has worked with the Greenacres Foundation in Cincinnati, Ohio for the past three years while completing his academic degree in 2020. Greenacres is a non-profit farm with focuses on sustainable agriculture and educational opportunities for Cincinnati Public Schools.

Brooks has a B.S. degree in Agriculture with a concentration in Animal Science from Wilmington College, Wilmington Ohio. While in college, Brooks was heavily involved in Collegiate 4-H.

Brooks' hometown is New Richmond, Ohio, which is 45 minutes southeast of Cincinnati. He grew up on his grandparents' farm where he was involved in raising tobacco, hay, and registered Braunvieh cattle. He was a 4-H member whose interests were waterfowl, egg production poultry, and beef. He has given back to his 4-H roots by volunteering as a 4-H club advisor and serving as an Adult Dairy Cattle Consultant for the local fair.

Brooks' excitement for 4-H and agriculture is contagious. Nelson County communities and youth will have a passionate young leader to grow Extension programs.

Amber Stockeland | Family and Community Wellness Agent

Amber began her part-time employment at Nelson County Extension Office on May 18th, 2020. She will be splitting her time between the Nelson and Steele Family and Community Wellness AgentCounties, working two days at Nelson and three at Steele.

Amber has a Bachelor of University Studies with emphasis in physical education and health from Valley City State University, Valley City, North Dakota.

Amber brings 13 years of service-oriented experience in programming, financial management, grant writing and partnership work with various local, multi-state and tribal stakeholders, She worked with the Cooperstown Community Activity Authority as the AmeriCorps Program Director, Financial Manager, adn Child Care Center Director. She also recently was the Program Officer for the Corporation for National anc Community Service. She was most proud of partnerships formed with tribal leaders and antions while providing oversight of the AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) programs in North and South Dakota. In this position, she also provided oversight of the Senior Companions Program, Foster Grandparents Program and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).

Amber, her husband and four children live on a farm in Griggs County. Her children are involved in the local 4-H program in Griggs County.

Shelby Obermueller | Administrative Assistant

Shelby began her part-time employment at Nelson County Extension Office on March 23rd, 2020. She splits her time between the Nelson County State's Attorney Office and the Nelson County Extension Office. Administrative Assistant

Shelby grew up on a farm in rural Kansas. Her farm life consisted of raising Angus and Angus-Hereford Cross Cattle as well as growing wheat, soy beans, milo, corn and some sunflowers. She continued to work on the family farm as well as working at two of the local hospitals as a CNA. She continued her career as a CNA after graduating high school in 2016.

Shelby, her fiance and two children moved to North Dakota following a job opportunity in July of 2018. She worked as a CNA at the nursing home in Lakota for close to a year before starting as the Administrative Assistant for the Extension office. Her passion for agriculture and excitement to learn about 4-H pushed her to apply for a job in Extension. She is excited to learn more about 4-H and continue her knowledge of Agriculture through Extension.
