Fungicide Efficacy Testing Results – Dry Edible Beans

ANTHRACNOSE

Field evaluation of fungicides for management of anthracnose on dry edible (pinto) beans; New Rockford, ND(2012):  Fungicides that contained azoxystrobin or pyraclostrobin active ingredients (Headline, Quadris, QuadrisOpti, and Priaxor) provided good control of foliar anthracnose symptoms, but it was unclear whether any fungicidesmight provide satisfactory control of anthracnose related seed discoloration.  Due to drought stress and high soilsalinity at the site used for this trial, the yield response to using fungicides to control anthracnose could not be properlyassessed.  User-friendly summary of key results (PDF)   |   Full technical report (PDF) 

RUST

Field evaluation of fungicides for management of rust on dry edible (pinto) beans; Carrington, ND (2010):  The QoI (FRAC 11) fungicides Headline (pyraclostrobin) and Quadris (azoxystrobin) and the DMI (FRAC 3) fungicides Proline (prothioconazole), Tebuzol (tebuconazole), and Quash (metconazole) provided excellent control of rust in this trial. SCLEROTINIA STEM ROT (WHITE MOLD)

FOLIAR FUNGICIDES REGISTERED FOR USE ON DRY BEANS IN NORTH DAKOTA:

Boscalid (FRAC 7) - Endura 70WG (8 to 11 oz/ac) - Endura contains 700 grams of boscalid per kilogram.

Fludioxonil (FRAC 12) - Cannonball 50WP (7 oz/ac) - Each kilogram of Cannonball contains 700 grams of fludioxonil.

  • General commentary on the efficacy of Cannonball:  Not enough data are available to rigorously evaluate the efficacy of Cannonball against Sclerotinia on dry beans.

Fludioxonil (FRAC 12) + cyprodinil (FRAC 9) - Switch 62.5WP (11 to 14 oz/ac) - Each kilogram of Switch contains 250 grams fludioxonil and 375 grams cyprodinil)

Fluazinam (FRAC 29) - Omega 500F (0.5 to 0.85 pt/ac) - Each liter of Omega contains 500 grams fluazinam.

  • General commentary on the efficacy of Omega:  Because Omega is a contact fungicide, it is expected to perform best when excellent fungicide coverage can be obtained.  We do not have enough data  to rigorously assess the efficacy of Omega against Sclerotinia on dry beans, but in the limited number of trials in which it has been evaluated, it has performed best on upright dry beans.

Iprodione (FRAC 2) - Rovral 4F (1.5 to  pt/ac) - Each liter of Rovral contains 480 grams iprodione.

Penthiopyrad (FRAC 7) - Vertisan 200EC (14 to 20 fl oz/ac) - Each liter of Vertisan contains 200 grams penthiopyrad.

  • General commentary on the efficacy of Vertisan:  We do not have enough data to rigorously assess the efficacy of Vertisan against Sclerotinia on dry beans.

Picoxystrobin - Aproach 250SC (6 to 12 fl oz/ac) - Each liter of Aproach contains 250 grams picoxystrobin.

Prothioconazole (FRAC 3) - Proline 480SC (5.7 fl oz/ac) - Each liter of Proline contains 480 grams prothioconazole.

Prothioconazole (FRAC 3) + fluopyram (FRAC 7) - ProPulse 500SC (10.3 fl oz/ac) - Each liter of ProPulse contains 200 grams prothioconazole and 200 grams fluopyram.

Pyraclostrobin (FRAC 11) + fluxapyroxad (FRAC 7) - Priaxor 500SC (4 to 8 fl oz/ac) - Each liter of Priaxor contains 333 grams pyraclostrobin and 167 grams fluxapyroxad.  

  • Efficacy results, Priaxor:  Carrington 2012a [ illustrated | full report ], Carrington 2013a [ illustrated | full report ], Carrington 2013d  [ illustrated | full report ]
  • General commentary on the efficacy of Priaxor:  Not enough testing has been conducted to rigorously assess the efficacy of Priaxor against Sclerotinia, but in the limited testing conducted, Priaxor has shown poor to fair efficacy against this disease.

Thiophanate-methyl (FRAC 1) - Topsin and other brands (20 to 40 fl oz/ac of FL formulation or 1 to 2 lb/ac of WP formulation applied as a single application; 20 to 30 fl oz of FL formulation or 1 to 1.5 lbs of WP formulation applied as two applications) - Topsin FL contains 540 grams thiophanate methyl per liter.

Azoxystrobin (FRAC 11) - Quadris 250SC (6 to 15.5 fl oz/ac) - We do not have data assessing the efficacy of Quadris against Sclerotinia on dry beans, but it is unlikely to provide satisfactory control of this disease.

Azoxystrobin (FRAC 11) + chlorothalonil (FRAC M5)- Quadris Opti (1.6 to 2.4 fl oz/ac) - We do not have data assessing the efficacy of Quadris Opti against Sclerotinia on dry beans, but it is unlikely to provide satisfactory control of this disease.

Azoxystrobin (FRAC 11) + propiconazole (FRAC 3) - Quilt (14 fl oz/ac) - We do not have data assessing the efficacy of Quilt against Sclerotinia on dry beans, but it is unlikely to provide satisfactory control of this disease.

Chlorothalonil (FRAC M5) - Bravo Weather Stik, Echo 720, other brands (application rate varies by product; as always, refer to the label).  Data are not available on the efficacy of chlorothalonil against Sclerotinia, but chlorothalonil is unlikely to exhibit satisfactory efficacy against this disease.

Copper (FRAC M) - various brands (application rate varies by product; as always, refer to the label).  Data are not available on the efficacy of copper against Sclerotinia, but copper is unlikely to exhibit satisfactory efficacy against this disease.

Pyraclostrobin (FRAC 11) - Headline 250EC or 250SC  (6 to 9 fl oz/ac) - We do not have data assessing the efficacy of Headline against Sclerotinia on dry beans, but it is unlikely to provide satisfactory control of this disease.

Sulfur (FRAC M) - various brands - We do not have data assessing the efficacy of sulfur against Sclerotinia on dry beans, but it is unlikely to provide satisfactory control of this disease.

Tebuconazole (FRAC 3) - various brands - We do not have data assessing the efficacy of tebuconazole against Sclerotinia on dry beans, but it is unlikely to provide satisfactory control of this disease.
