Meeting Minutes
The
State Board of Agricultural Research and Education’s Barley Granting Committee
meeting was called to order at 8 a.m. on Dec. 15, 2010. Voting members present
were Jim Broten, Charles Ottem, Mark Seastrand and Greg Kessel. Non-voting members present were Steve
Edwardson, Dr. Vern Anderson and Doyle Lentz.
Also present was Lori Capouch and Dan Wogsland.
By
consensus, the committee nominated Jim Broten to chair the meeting.
The
following proposals were considered:
Yield response of North Dakota barley
varieties to spot type foliar diseases
Researchers: Robert Brueggeman and
Richard Horsley
Amount requested: $6,000
The
objective of this project is to determine the impact of foliar disease severity
on yield of different genotypes of barley and identify which pathogens are
contributing to spot type disease severity under natural field conditions.
Development of feed barley and two-rowed
malting barley cultivars for North Dakota
Researchers: Richard Horsley, Robert Brueggeman and Paul
Schwarz
Amount requested: $8,782
The
objective of this project is to develop high yielding feed barley and two-rowed
malting barley adapted for production in North Dakota.
It
was moved by Ottem and seconded by Seastrand to grant negotiated funding as
follows:
1.
$6,000
to the project titled “Yield response to North Dakota barley varieties to spot
type foliar diseases”.
2.
$8,782
to the project titled “Development of feed barley and two-rowed malting barley
cultivars for North Dakota”.
The
motion carried unanimously.
There
being no other business, the meeting was adjourned.
