Golden Valley County 4-H
From My Corner
Happy Holiday’s
I would like to start out by wishing each of you a Happy Holiday Season. I hope you all take a few moments to relax and enjoy the company of family and friends during this busy time of year.
As for 4-H, there are a lot of new things going on, first I would like to introduce all of you to the Golden Valley County 4-H blog. Please feel free to visit the site and leave comments about the direction you would like to see the blog, and 4-H in general, go. I look forward to seeing your input. The address for the blog is http://www.ag.ndsu.edu/roller/gv4H.
There are many other exciting things that are new in 4-H. I recently spent 2 days in Bismarck at a 4-H SET (science, engineering and technology) training. There are many exciting projects in this area that 4-Her’s can participate in. Everything from Computers to GPS to Robotics was covered at the training. If anyone is interested in checking out these projects stop by the office and I would be more than happy to explore the possibilities with you.
The Golden Valley Sharpshooters, shooting sports club, has really taken off in the past few months and become a highlight of 4-H. Over 20 kids have participated, and through shooting sports 4-H has been introduced to some new families. If any of you are interested in shooting sports but have never been to a meeting, it’s never too late to join. The next meeting will be January 13th at 3:00pm in the basement of the legion, please feel free to join us.
For anyone looking into livestock projects for this year, I would like to remind you of a few loan opportunities to help you get started. The Wosepka Memorial Loan is managed through the Golden Valley 4-H Council. The loan is repaid at the end of your project with an interest rate of 1%. For more information of a loan application, contact the Extension Office. Another loan opportunity that is available to 4-H youth looking to expand a 4-H project into an income producing project is the FSA youth loan. These loans are for modest sized income-producing projects in any area from Livestock to Road side stands to repair shops. For more information on these loans contact the local FSA Field Office.
I hope that each of you have put some thought into what you would like to get from 4-H this year. I also hope that if any of the above opportunities interest you that you will contact the Extension Office.
Enjoy the rest of the winter and I look forward to seeing you all at Winter Fun Day.
