The RLND 2007-2009
Class members met for the first time on Friday, October 12,
2007 at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Bismarck. Cindy
Selstedt, Administrative Secretary for RLND, did a
presentation on the RLND website and shared information on
the participant login page on the website.
Mel Nelson, CEO
and President of Executive Management Systems in Fargo,
presented information on the DiSC personality profile. Every
participant received their personal DiSC profile and a DiSC
people-reading guide. Mel discussed what the four letters of
the DiSC profile meant, what attributes were associated with
each specific personality and explained what the different
areas of the personal profile meant for the participants.
Connie and Dave
Sprynczynatyk (Adjutant General for the North Dakota
National Guard) hosted a RLND social at their home on Fraine
Barracks on Friday night. The participants spent time
learning about the historic Adjutant General's home and
getting to know the other RLND participants better.
Participants
started the second day of orientation with an Appreciative
Inquiry (AI) interview. The participants paired up and
interviewed each other using appreciative inquiry questions.
The AI questions asked about the participant's positive
experiences, what they wished for in the future and to share
a personal item that helped describe themselves. This
process was insightful as the 18 RLND participants learned
more about each other.
The video, Abilene
Paradox, was shown and discussed. This video shared
information on why we don't always speak up in a group
setting. The video shared examples of how our self-talk
sometimes deceives us in what we are thinking. A robust
discussion followed with participants sharing their thoughts
about why they sometimes take trips to Abilene.
RLND Director,
Marie Hvidsten, reviewed expectations of RLND participants,
seminar management team (SMT) expectations, and a code of
ethics for RLND participants. The seminar concluded with the
participants completing an evaluation of the two-day
orientation seminar. |
