| Twenty-six
individuals from across North Dakota gathered in Carrington, November
20-22, for the first Rural
Leadership North Dakota (RLND) program. These participants gather
together seven more times in the next 18
months at various locations for an in-depth study into leadership. The
group will also take a study tour of the United States in February of
2005.
Discovering leaders within was the focus
of the seminar in Carrington. Linden Boyd of Boyd & Company, Inc. in
Fargo presented information on leadership beliefs, vision and attributes
of leaders. The group was challenged by Keith Bjerke, Vice President of
University Relations at NDSU, to develop leadership from the Inside Out.
Blaine Schatz, Carrington Research Extension Center Director, Laurie
Dietz, Executive Director Carrington Chamber of Commerce and Don Frye,
Mayor of Carrington, welcomed the group to Carrington and RLND.
Linden Boyd continued discussion into day
two on various practices of leadership and how they are practiced.
Rachelle Vettern, NDSU Leadership & Volunteer Development Specialist,
presented some information on
Ethical Leadership.
The group toured Dakota Growers Pasta,
Cannon Technologies and Putnam House to finish the day.
The highlight of the seminar was a panel
of local individuals who talked about their leadership experiences on
Day 3. The panel consisted of Marlene Scott, co-owner of a floral shop;
Dorothy Fenske, Volunteer Coordinator of Carrington Health Center
Auxiliary; Pastor Susan Fandrich, Federated Church, and Jason Topp, Vice
President of the Carrington FFA Chapter.
Rural Leadership North Dakota will
continue in Minot, January 22-24, 2004.
