Oilseed Development Center of Excellence The mission of the research center is:
The focus will be on commercial issues and facilitating the final stages of commercialization of traits in grains and oilseeds (how to move developed and/or near-developed traits forward) for food and non-food uses. Focus must be on crops having the biggest impact on North Dakota and, hence, would be on major grains and oilseeds including 1 st , 2 nd , and 3 rd tier traits [in addition to non-food uses of agricultural output and plants as factories]. A focus will be to facilitate the longer term coexistence of biotechnology developments with conventional agriculture. A specific purpose is to encourage private sector investment in technology that can increase farm incomes. To complement that, it is essential to build expertise and outreach programs which will be done at NDSU in collaboration with targeted partners. A comprehensive set of activities have been planned generally around: 1) trait development and commercialization; 2) economics, policy, outreach, and facilitative functions; and 3) outreach for producers and customers.
