Arthur Lamey

Art plays a major role in extension crop production educational programming with a focus on disease prevention and control in row crops. In that role he works closely with other state and area crops specialists and extension agents on diseases of dry beans, sunflower, sugarbeet, potatoes, canola and other minor crops new to the state's producers. One major effort has dealt with control of white mold on dry beans and sunflower, a threat to production of these two major rotational crops. He is a prolific writer, having authored or coauthored more than 250 publications and articles. Art was recognized as NDSU Extension Communicator of the Year in 1993. He is highly respected by the agricultural community and has worked closely with many grower organizations, including the Red River Valley Sugarbeet Growers, the National Sunflower Association, Northarvest Bean Growers Association, and the Red River Valley Potato Growers Association. He has been active on NDSU and extension committees and is known as a senior faculty member who takes the time and effort to work with and mentor younger faculty members.

David Rice

Dave is recognized as the one person most responsible for leading the NDSU Extension Service into the computer age. He started out as state AGNET coordinator, handling administration and working with specialists to add programs to the multistate network. He developed a series of microcomputer clientele workshops helping producers new to computer technology learn how to use this new tool. As computer applications matured and became more sophisticated, he became a computer applications specialist and leader of the computer services effort in extension. He also proposed and cooperated in development of the NDSU Extension Network (ExtNet). He is currently responsible for NDSU's agricultural, youth and family presence on the World Wide Web. Notable in this effort was his role in development of Web sites devoted to the severe winter of 1997-98 and the catastrophic spring flooding that followed. Dave has been active in professional organizations, on committees and task forces, and served as interim head of the communication unit. A longtime Naval Reserve member, he recently received the prestigious Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal. He has also served as board member and chairman of the Cass/Clay Chapter of the American Red Cross.
