2000 Meritorious Support Service Award

Mary Beth Odegaard

Secretary, Pesticide Programs
NDSU Extension Service

Mary Beth has worked for the Extension Service for more than a decade, first in the state 4_H office and now with the pesticide training and certification program. During her years with 4_H she helped establish the North Dakota 4_H Foundation and, in recognition of her contributions to 4_H, was named an Honorary 4_H Ambassador. In 1998 she moved to the pesticide program. This complex program is mandated by law for users of certain pesticides, so participants are not necessarily enthusiastic about it. She has instituted procedures and policies that have helped cut through the complexity of the program and has helped market it as an efficient and relevant tool for pesticide users rather than a burden to be endured. Today certifications can be processed in days or even hours instead of weeks, generating praise and thank yous from clients rather than complaints.
