Carmel Miller

Extension Agent, Livestock Systems
Grant County
NDSU Extension Service

Carmel joined the Extension Service in 1991 as an agent in training in Stark/Billings counties. She has been the extension agent in Bowman County and is now a 4_H associate as well as agent for Grant County. Much of her effort has been in 4_H, with an emphasis in learning rather than winning ribbons, resulting in a greater interest in year_round activities and a sense of teamwork. She has worked closely with the soil conservation districts on no_till programs and conservation tours, initiated a county Ag Day and conducts a strong livestock program. She compiled a range handbook that is used by many producers and agents in the area. Her work as a 4_H associate concentrates on leadership development, including a monthly newsletter, a series of volunteer publications, in_service training and a statewide volunteer conference. She is also involved in community development, the Master Internet Volunteer program and horticulture programming.
