2000 Friend of Extension Award

Gladys Cairns

Administrator of Child Protection Services
North Dakota Department of Human Services

Gladys is administrator of child protection services in the North Dakota Department of Human Services. Recognizing the importance of preventive education, she is a strong supporter of Extension Service programs in her work, in the committees she is involved with and at the Capitol. Her work with the Family Life Education Project has helped promote the family center concept. She encouraged and supported development of the NDSU Extension Child Protection Policy, serving as a resource on state law and systems and reviewing the policy. Gladys also contacted human services programs in North Dakota counties to inform them about the policy and how to work with it. She established the process for clearing names through the North Dakota Child Abuse Index and served as a link between county human service and extension staff.
