2000 Meritorious Service Award

Ron Beneda

Extension Agent, Cropping Systems
Cavalier County
NDSU Extension Service

Ron has served as extension agent in Cavalier County for 20 years, after first spending a year as an assistant agent in Richland County. During a long string of natural disasters in a county heavily dependent on crop production, he has worked tirelessly to provide producers with information on crop production as well helping them make difficult financial decisions. Two examples are his efforts to educate producers about wheat scab and the orange wheat blossom midge. He has also worked hard with development of new crops. Cavalier County now has the largest acreage of canola in the state, and he is working with a group of alfalfa growers to establish production opportunities. He works with neighboring agents in North Dakota, Minnesota and Manitoba on the annual International Farm Symposium and also works closely with the Langdon Research Extension Center staff. He has served as the Unit 3 coordinator for two years.
