Pre-Plant Incorporated Herbicides for Small Seeded Crops

Small seeded crops such as mustard and canola must be seeded about one inch deep. Without rainfall, surface soils are often too dry for a good seedbed. Incorporating herbicides also tends to dry out the soil surface. Consider applying and incorporating herbicide two to three weeks ahead of intended planting date. One incorporation is necessary immediately after application. The second incorporation may be delayed until just before seeding. If rain does occur the second incorporation will be done or can be accomplished by shallow tillage, conserving seedbed moisture.
