Leafy Spurge

Tordon 22K is the most effective herbicide for controlling leafy spurge. Tordon 22K at a high rate of 1 gallon per acre in mid-June will give 90% control, but this high rate is not cost effective for most farmers. However, a tank mix of 1-2 pints of Tordon 22K plus 2-4,D at 1 quart per acre of the 4 pound per gallon formulation applied annually for 3-5 years in June or September has been very effective.

Banvel at high rates has given good control but control is not as long lasting as picloram.

2-4,D will control top growth, but has little effect on reducing spurge stands.

Landmaster BW also has a label for leafy spurge control. Landmaster application is made to fall regrowth. Grass injury is possible with this treatment. Leafy spurge topgrowth control is good for about 1 year. Retreatment is necessary.

Observe closely label information concerning application of these products near water or where the water table is within 10 feet of the ground surface.
