Field Pea Harvest Information

Timing:

early August to early September
depends on: growing season and cultivar selection
physiologically mature when pods are a yellow to tan color
matures from the bottom pods upward to top pods
lower shatter potential than soybean or dry bean
combine at 16% to 20% moisture
aerate to dry down seed
storage at 16% moisture

Equipment:

generally combined direct
method influenced by variety
aggressive pickup attachment
a large "Sund or Rake-up" type
use a lead coulter
 flex head or grain head
lifters (pickup guards)
raking reel (pickup)

May be Swathed then Combined

heavy weed pressure
uneven crop maturity
increases harvest loss
use roller
vines a yellow color, seeds firm

Combine Settings

cylinder speed form 350 to 600 rpm
use lowest possible
concave opening
3/4 inch front and 1/4 inch back
adjust with changing conditions
