Grain Yield of Paul Oat

The hull of conventional oat comprises approximately 25% of the whole oat grain yield. When the hulls are removed at harvest as with naked oats, the total grain yield will be reduced. To compare grain yields of naked and conventional oat varieties, the hull must be accounted for either by multiplying whole grain yield by .75 to provide an estimate of groat yield, or by multiplying naked oat yield bu 1.33 to estimate whole grain yield. A conventional unit for comparing conventional oat grain yields with naked oat grain yields is pounds of groats per acre. Table 2 compares Paul grain yield, adjusted oat yields, and groat yield with conventional oat varieties.
