Seed Production Considerations

Paul oat is plant variety protected, however, does not contain the title five option. This means that the owner, North Dakota State University, holds the right on the seed standards to which it can be sold. Presently, NDSU will not hold any specific regulations with Paul. This means Paul oat can be sold as common seed. If purchasing common seed, be aware of the germination and overall condition of the seed. It is recommended to buy certified seed when first purchasing Paul oat. This will give assurance that it is high quality seed.

When raising Paul oat for seed, maintaining good germination and purity are very important. Avoid raising Paul on fields that have a history of wild oat or other noxious weeds. Also, keep in mind the special harvest and storage requirements for naked oat.
