Planting Hull-Less (Naked) Oat The recommended seeding rate for regular oat ranges from 60 to 90 pounds per acre. However, the suggested seeding rate for hull-less oat is 50 to 65 pounds per acre. Generally, a drill setting for rye may be used for hull-less oat. Lacking the hull for protection of the groat, hull-less oat are more vulnerable to seed- and/or soil-borne disease organisms. Thus, seed treatment should be considered. Another precaution at planting time is to avoid planting hull-less oat at soil depths greater than 2.5 inches. Also, watch for bridging of seed in the drill box. Back to Oats Menu |
