Direct Seed for Plow Down
Seventy-five to one hundred twenty-five lbs. of nitrogen can be obtained from sweetclover and alfalfa if utilized as green manure. Seeding as late as June 15 would allow sufficient growth before tillage 8-10 weeks later. Legume plow down, tillage or herbicide control should take place prior to September 1 if the field is to be cropped the coming spring. This would allow time for nitrogen release and moisture recharge.
