Inoculation of Seed

Alfalfa and sweetclover seed should be treated with proper rhizobia bacteria (type A) at planting time. The bacteria infect the root and are responsible for taking nitrogen from the air and eventually making it available to the plant. Without inoculation, nodule (result of infection) formation and nitrogen fixation would be expected to be poor. Inoculum purchased should be fresh and kept refrigerated or frozen to keep bacteria alive.
