Wireworm

Wireworms are larvae of click beetles. Larvae are shiny yellow to brown in color and are approximately 1/2 to 1 and 1/2 inches long. More than one species may be present in a field. Wireworms may remain in the larval stage for 2 to 7 years depending on species, so injury may occur to successive crops in the same field. Potential for wireworm damage is greatest in fields which were previously in sod or areas of fields that tend to remain wet for longer periods of time.

Wireworms may damage corn plants by feeding on the corn seeds, or by feeding and tunneling in underground portions of the root or stems.
