Watch for Cutworms in Row Crops Begin watching for cutworms as row crops emerge. Check the base of damaged plants. Worms may be found 1 to 2" below the soil surface. Cutworms are nighttime feeders. Use 15 to 20 gallons of water per acre when treating cutworms. In soybeans treat when 1 or more cutworms are found per 3 ft. of row. Treat sunflower if a 25% stand reduction has occurred or more than one cutworm per square foot is found. In corn treat when over 3% of the plants are cut or 1 in 20 show leaf feeding. For currently labeled insecticides see current Field Crop Insect Management Guide http://www.ext.nodak.edu/extpubs/plantsci/pests/e1143w1.htm Back to Cutworm - Insects
