Two Inch Seeding Depth Best for Wheat

Hard Red Spring Wheat and Durum performance is best when seeded at a two inch depth. Seeding deeper than two inches begins to reduce stand, tillering, and yield. Tall Durum and Hard Red Spring Wheat should not be seeded deeper than 2 1/2 - 3 inches. Semi-dwarf varieties should not be seeded deeper than 2 - 2 1/2 inches. However all wheat varieties have best emergence when seeded at 1.5 to 2.0 inches.
