Planting Depth for Corn

Shallow planting, 1 to 1 1/2 inches deep, is recommended for early planting in cool soils. For later planting, when soils are warmer and tend to be dry, plant 2 to 2 1/2 inches deep. Plant at shallow depths in fine-textured (sandy) soils. In no-till planting, be sure the packer wheel closes the seed furrow and gives good seed soil contact.
