Crambe Diseases

Diseases identified in crambe in North Dakota include sclerotinia (white mold) and alternaria black spot. Crambe is susceptible to sclerotinia (white mold), but slightly less so than sunflower and dry bean. Other potential diseases include bacterial blight, blackleg, clubroot, pythium root rot, and turnip yellow mosaic virus.

Carefully plan crop rotations to keep disease pressure to a minimum. It is suggested to maintain a four-year rotation with crambe as well as other crops susceptible to sclerotinia including sunflower, dry bean, canola, field pea, and soybean. Certified seed should be planted to avoid alternaria and other seed-borne diseases.
