Barley Seeding Rate Carrington - 1992-94

Barley should be seeded at a minimum rate of one million pure live seeds (PLS) per acre. This recommendation is based on research at Carrington (see table below) and other ND Research Center locations. The Carrington data indicates at seeding rates over one million seeds per acre, days to head and kernel plumpness tended to be reduced while grain yield tended to increase. Test weight and protein (data not shown) was not influenced at one million or higher per acre seeding rates.
