Barley Seeding Rate at Carrington

In barley seeding rate trials at Carrington (Tables 1), optimum yield was obtained at 1 million seeds (pure live seed basis) per acre, however; in seeding rate trials at Minot (Table 2) optimum yield was achieved at seeding rates above 1.5 million seeds per acre.

A seeding rate of 1 to 1.5 million live seeds per acre will insure optimum yield. Any reduction in protein associated with increased seeding rate is favorable in a malting barley.
