The NDSU Plant Diagnostic Lab does not offer chemical residue analysis for herbicides or other possible contaminants. We offer herbicide injury evaluation based on visual symptoms only

In cases where a known specific herbicide is suspected to have caused injury, symptoms can often be visually evaluated to determine if they are consistent with exposure to the specific suspected herbicide.

In cases where a herbicide injury is suspected but the applied herbicide is not known, a visual evaluation for herbicide injury may not be able to determine precise chemistry, and it may not be definitive. However, herbicide chemical families can sometimes be identified based a visual analysis alone. A visual evaluation can be helpful if it can narrow chemical possibilities to help reduce costs in circumstances that require more rigorous chemical residue testing.
