4-H Film Festival Winners Announced

Youth demonstrated their video-making skills in the first North Dakota 4-H Film Festival.

Teams of youth tested their creativity and video-making skills this summer at the first North Dakota 4-H Film Festival.

Film festival participants were able to create and submit a one- to 10-minute video in four categories. Here are winners:

  • Fur, Feathers and Fins category - first place: “What Did You Say?” created by Country Boys; team members are Cordell Volson and Jacob Ammon, McHenry County
  • 4-H SET on Going Green category - first place: “Saving the Earth 101” created by Purple People Eaters; team members are McKenna Poss and Melissa Milliren, Adams County
  • Discover 4-H category - first place: “Adventures in 4-H” created by Blue Skies; team member is Kyla Krahn, Cavalier County; second place: “We Love 4-H” created by Dakota Sky 4-H Club Amazing Video Team; team members are Alyssa Mutschelknaus, Ashley Mutschelknaus and Annie Hehn, Grant County

“The festival committee and judges were impressed by the 4-H participants’ creativity and film-making abilities,” says Linda Hauge, North Dakota State University 4-H youth development specialist and festival organizer.

The competition was open to teams of youth in the sixth through 12th grade. Each team was required to consist of one to four members, with at least one member being a 4-H’er.

The first-place teams received a certificate and a $100 cash award to be split among the team members. The North Dakota 4-H Foundation provided the money for the prizes.

The North Dakota Center for 4-H Youth Development, which hosted the film festival, plans to hold it again next year at the State Fair. This year’s winning entries will be shown during the 2012 festival.
