The Benson County team of Katie Rice, Jessica Johnson, Kelly Fragodt and Jacob Arnold placed first in the senior division of the 4-H horse quiz bowl contest held at North Dakota State University on April 2.

The contest was set in a bracketed single-elimination tournament, with each team guaranteed two matches.

All of the Benson County team members are from Maddock. Barb Rice is the team’s coach.

Burleigh County’s team advanced to the final event by winning matches with teams from Barnes County in the first round and Stutsman and Sargent counties in the semifinal. Barnes County placed third in the event with a win over the Stutsman/Sargent team.

Three teams participated in the junior division in a round-robin style event. Mountrail placed first with two wins. The team from Sargent and Stutsman counties placed second and Barnes County was third.

Mountrail’s team members are Haley Goodall, Bobbi Hennessy and Veronica Enander from Stanley and Cheyenne Liedle from White Earth. Jim Hennessy is the team’s coach.
