Beef producers and others in the beef industry will have an opportunity to provide input to help fill a beef production systems faculty position in North Dakota State University’s Animal Sciences Department.

Three candidates for the position each will present a seminar related to their background and their vision for the position.

The seminars, which are open to the public, will be held on the NDSU campus in Hultz Hall, Room 104. They’ll also be broadcast through the North Dakota Interactive Video Network at the NDSU Carrington, Hettinger, Dickinson and Central Grasslands (Streeter) Research Extension Centers and Morton County Courthouse in Mandan.

Producers and others can watch the seminars at any of the locations.

All three candidates’ seminars will start at 10 a.m. The dates of the presentations are:

• June 3 – Kendall Swanson, an associate professor at the University of Guelph, Guelph, Ont.
• June 7 – Jim MacDonald, an assistant professor at Texas AgriLife Research, Amarillo, and West Texas A&M University, Canyon
• June 14 – Elaine Grings, a livestock scientist at the International Livestock Research Institute, Ibadan, Nigeria

The seminars, which are part of the candidates’ interview process, will run about 40 minutes. Following that, each candidate will answer questions from and interact with the audience. The audience also can provide feedback to the search committee following the seminars by e-mailing Eric Berg, search committee chair, at eric.p.berg@ndsu.edu.

“We encourage everyone interested in beef cattle production to view the seminars and participate in the question-and-answer session after the presentations,” says Greg Lardy, head of the NDSU Department of Animal Sciences. “This position is a very important part of the Animal Sciences Department, and we want the best person to fill it.”

The person selected will hold a joint research and teaching appointment.
