Federal Reserve Economist Headlines Farm Management Meeting on Feb. 3

The Northwest Farm Managers Association has organized its 101st annual meeting for producers and others interested in agriculture. The meeting will take place on Feb. 3 at the Holiday Inn in Fargo beginning at 9 a.m.

Presentations will focus on grain markets, field drainage and a general economic outlook and its impact on agriculture.

Brian Briggeman, an economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, will provide insight on the current state of the economy. Jerry Gulke, nationally recognized columnist on grain marketing, will present the market outlook and strategies for soybeans, corn and wheat.

An update on whether payments may be made under the Average Crop Revenue Enrollment (ACRE) program will be presented by Dwight Aakre, North Dakota State University farm management specialist.

The morning will highlight farm drainage issues. Hans Kandel, NDSU agronomist, and Hal Weiser, Natural Resources Conservation Service, will discuss the agronomic and regulatory considerations of drainage and tiling. Scot Manthe and Roni Zupi, both of AgCountry Farm Credit Services, will explain drainage project financing and tax issues. There will be a panel discussion by Brad Delzer, Jess Determan and Ross Johnson. The three represent drainage and tiling companies.

The Fargo Rotarians will host the noon banquet. Mark Piehl with the Clay County Historical Society is the noon speaker.

The meeting is organized for the public and all are welcome. The cost is $40 payable at the door. The fee includes a noon meal and breaks. Call (701) 231-7393 for more information.
