Best of the Best Meetings Set for Feb. 10, 11, 16 and 17

Correct information is vital for profitable production during times of rising input costs and declining commodity prices.

Dates for four Best of the Best in Research and Marketing meetings have been set for Feb. 10 in Grand Forks, 11 in Moorhead, 16 in Bottineau and 17 in Dickinson.

The meetings in Grand Forks and Moorhead will focus on wheat and soybeans and will include presenters from the University of Minnesota and North Dakota State University.

“Presentations will review the latest research findings covering a range of topics from varietal performance, integrated weed management, intensive soybean management, and grain storage and marketing,” according to Joel Ransom, NDSU Extension Service agronomist and one of the meeting organizers.

The meeting in Grand Forks will be held at the Alerus Center and the Moorhead meeting at the Marriott Courtyard.

The meetings in Bottineau and Dickinson will focus on wheat and barley production and marketing.

This is the first time that wheat and barley will be covered together in the Best of the Best format, according to Ransom.

Presentations will address issues of varietal selection, grain storage, diseases and insects, fertilizer use, cover crops and marketing. The meeting in Bottineau will held at Bottineau High School’s Holwell Auditorium. The meeting in Dickinson will be held at the Days Inn Grand Dakota Lodge.

“Correct information is vital for profitable production during times of rising input costs and declining commodity prices, so these meetings are a great way for farmers to obtain this information,” says Hans Kandel, NDSU Extension agronomist. “The hands-on demonstrations during the middle of the day are particularly popular.”

These meetings are sponsored by the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council, North Dakota Soybean Council, North Dakota Barley Council, North Dakota Wheat Commission, Minnesota Wheat Research and Promotion Council, Minnesota Association of Wheat Growers and University of Minnesota and NDSU Extension Services.

The meetings will begin at 8:30 a.m. and a free noon lunch will be provided. There is no participation fee, but advanced registration is required.
