NDSU Hosting Reproductive Management Workshop

NDSU is holding a workshop on sheep and goat reproductive management Nov. 10-12.

North Dakota State University’s Animal Sciences Department is hosting a small-ruminant reproductive management workshop on campus Nov. 10-12.

This workshop is for veterinarians who treat small ruminants and veterinary students.

“Compared with other livestock industries, sheep and goat producers have a hard time finding veterinary practices that have much experience with small ruminants,” says Reid Redden, NDSU Extension Service sheep specialist. “This workshop will allow for veterinarians to gain additional knowledge and hands-on experience needed to provide the latest in sheep and goat reproductive techniques to their clientele.”

Topics that will be covered include:

Reproduction in sheep and goats
Methods of estrous synchronization and superovulation
Semen collection, evaluation and preservation
Development of teaser rams
Laparoscopic artificial insemination
Embryo collection and transfer
Ultrasonography
