Extension Youth Conference to Feature Aerospace Science Experience

Extension Youth Conference attendees will get a taste of life aboard a space station through an aerospace science camp.

The North Dakota State University Extension Service will hold an aerospace science camp for eighth- through 12th-graders June 15-18 on the NDSU campus in Fargo as a part of the Extension Youth Conference.

Participants will learn about space-related topics through tours, activities and speakers during the day. In the evenings, they will join other conference participants for meals and activities.

The capstone event of the program will be the opportunity to take part in e-Missions Space Station Alpha. Participants will experience being astronauts aboard the International Space Station while trying to protect themselves from the worst solar flare ever recorded. Using what they have learned throughout the conference, participants will work together to keep Mission Control informed about the status of the station and relay communications to other team members to keep the crew safe.

Registration for the conference is online at http://www.ndsu.edu/4h (click on EYC online registration in the upper right-hand corner of the Web page). The cost is $150 for the four days. This fee includes meals from Monday evening through Thursday brunch, overnight housing Monday through Wednesday, supplies, materials and an event T-shirt.

Scholarships are available to help pay the registration. Call (701) 231-7251 to request an application.

Transportation to the event is available for $25 from bus stops designated on the Web site.

For more information about the conference, contact Holly Halvorson at (701) 231-7251 or go to http://www.ndsu.edu/4h.
