4-H’ers Compete in Junior Consumer Choices Contest at N.D. State Fair

North Dakota 4-H’ers bring home awards from the junior Consumer Choices competition at the State Fair.

Eleven- and 12-year-olds from across North Dakota competed in the junior division of the 4-H Consumer Choices contest Tuesday, July 22, at the North Dakota State Fair in Minot.

The 4-H’ers ranked classes of backpacks, gift cards and fast food on certain qualities and gave reasons for their rankings. Top teams were:

  • First place - Morton County - team members: Tyrza Hoines, Renae Tokach, Kirsten Presler, Mikayla Schirado and Dominick Goettle
  • Second place - Renville County - team members: Emily Miller, Jennifer Poth, Anna VanderLaan, Ty Feland and Madison Southam
  • Third place - Dickey, Rolette and Cavalier multicounty team - team members: Emily Hauck, Dickey County; Jimmy Gilje, Rolette County; and Garret Hoffman, Cavalier County
  • Fourth place - Burleigh County - team members: Shania Brooks, Neil Lelm and Katelyn Ebach
  • Fifth place - Mountrail County - team members: Kaska Weidman, Mariah Billadeau, Myles Odermann, Rayessa Odermann and Brooke Billadeau

The top 15 junior individuals were:

  • First place - Dominick Goettle, Morton
  • Second place - Renae Tokach, Morton
  • Third place - Kristen Liffrig, Oliver
  • Fourth place - Jimmy Gilje, Rolette
  • Fifth place - Tanner Granger, Grand Forks
  • Sixth place - Travis Bruse, Cass
  • Seventh place - Neil Lelm, Burleigh
  • Eighth place - Jennifer Poth, Renville
  • Ninth place - Charlie Hystad, McKenzie
  • 10th place - Tyrza Hoines, Morton
  • 11th place - Carrie Nienhuis, Ramsey
  • 12th place - Garret Hoffman, Cavalier
  • 13th place - Claire Anderson, Wells
  • 14th place - Rayessa Odermann, Mountrail
  • 15th place - Shania Brooks, Burleigh
