Reduce Feed Waste

heifers and hay ring Hay loss and feed waste are inevitable components of most beef production systems. However, producers can reduce the losses. For example, place uncovered hay bales stored outside on a hard surface in single rows, with bales stacked face to face, to eliminate moisture accumulation. Other options include storing hay in a building, feeding bales in a hay ring or feed bunk instead of on the ground, and reducing the amount of time cows have access to the hay, althouth limiting feed can have drawbacks.
