Summary (June 24, 2021)

  • Based on the DM map published this morning, an Exceptional Drought category coverage remained the same as last week at 18% of the state (Slide 11).
  • Based on the same map, 100% of the state is in drought. Ninety-three percent of the state is in at least a Severe Drought category, and 63% of the state is in an Extreme Drought category (Slide 14). 
  • This week, the Drought Severity and Coverage Index (DSCI) value is 375, which is a 1-point improvement compared to last week (Slide 16)
  • The estimated population in the drought area is 672,591 (did not change since last week).
  • Slides 25 through 33 include information related to drought impact reported by the NDSU Extension offices across the state. Pictures are the compliments of the county agents of the respective counties.
