SAFE 600: Enhancing Food Safety Education and Training in the Great Plains

About the Workshop:
This online teaching workshop is designed to provide an intensive experience for high school and college faculty to gain knowledge and specific strategies for teaching Food Safety curriculum. The workshop will be structured with online discussion sessions, opportunities for individual research, collaboration and interdisciplinary team-building. South Dakota State University (SDSU) will provide applied food safety lab experiences with resources to reproduce in the traditional classroom lab setting. New Mexico State University (NMSU), in cooperation with SDSU, will deliver a virtual scientific lab experience using food safety testing techniques. This animated virtual lab experience can be incorporated into both high school and college classroom curriculum. Current communication and education department faculty with expertise in multicultural education, teaching methods, and new media technologies, along with experienced trainers with professional experience presenting to faculty, adult learners, and student populations will be included in the workshop.
